Way up North and Underwater

Raised in a small Inuit community, Paul Nicklen is partial to the cold and inhospitable environment of the Canada’s Arctic. He left the Northwest Territories to return an educated biologist, photography his hobby. Not much time passed and the well-liked hobby grew into an all-consuming lifestyle and a profession. Since 1995 Mr. Nicklen is devoted to photographing wildlife; underwater photography being his specialty. If we could imagine endurance needed to spend up to 18 hrs a day out in the cold, the patience wildlife photography normally requires and the determination to excel at it, perhaps we could appreciate these photos even more.

Umm… no. Some of the pics are from the arctic but others are from Antarctica. Leopard seals and chin-strap penguins are from the south pole, not the north.

Thank you for pointing that out. We anchored these few lines about Mr. Nicklen to the Arctic, but know he travels for his work. Anyway, the misleading info is edited.

  3. Penguins beware!!!!!!!!! The leopard seal is not just named for its spots; it has a powerful set of teeth and is a fearsome predator.
